Our History
Polarcomp Oy was founded in 1994 by two musicians who performed gigs in their free time. Initially, production focused on in-house audio products and audio electronics. Later that year, the company signed a partnership agreement with Salcomp to manufacture chargers for Nokia mobile phones.
In 1995, the company began full-scale production of Nokia chargers, assembling them from components into finished products. This contract enabled significant business growth in the following years.
By 2001, Polarcomp had manufactured 5.5 million chargers, employing up to 90 people. However, in 2002, Salcomp decided to move charger production to China, which had a major impact on Polarcomp's order volume.
After the end of charger production, the company's assembly line shifted to a diverse range of orders from various industries. One of the most significant contracts between 2002 and 2005 was the production of power supplies for Nokia base stations.
Replacing the lost charger contracts proved challenging. In the early 2010s, the company had to scale down production due to lower order volumes. However, by 2017, order volumes started picking up, and the company began recruiting new employees again.
In 2018, Polarcomp expanded into the healthcare sector. Since 2019, the company has been ISO 13485 certified, ensuring compliance with strict quality standards for medical devices and equipment.
In 2022, the original founders decided to step away from the business. The new owners have strong backgrounds in software engineering, allowing the company to expand its services into software development alongside electronics manufacturing.
